New to Hockey?
Step 1: Learn To Skate
Skating is the foundation step to playing hockey. Skaters need to pass Basic 1 before they can move onto the Learn to Play program. Learn to Skate

Step 2A: Learn to Play
A transitionary class that prepares individuals for organized hockey. This course MUST be taken for at least one session before registering for our Peaks Youth Hockey League program. Protective gear (gloves, shin pads, elbow pads, and helmet) is required for this class. You can either check out gear for your class at the skate rental counter when you get your skates or you can bring your own.

Step 2B: NHL LEARN TO PLAY (optional)
NHL Learn to Play is a program that we host here at our rink through the Mammoth

Step 3: continue to play
Continue to Play is a great at continuing to develop a player's skills. We offer this class to help out all players who have participated in either our Learn to Play course or the NHL Learn to Play. Class time is usually around 60 minutes.
Step 4: Peaks Youth Hockey League
Peaks Youth Hockey League is recreational hockey program through the Parks and Recreation department in Provo Utah. PHYL (Peaks Youth Hockey League) offers a welcoming and inclusive environment that is perfect for children who are new to the game. We will put your player on a team of about 10-15 kids and they will play their games here at Peaks Ice Arena. Registration will open July 2026
